Interviews & Hype: “Yes, For Any Success Story There Is Pressure” – Omo Baba #1

Now you can meet one of Nigeria’s Ace Comedian, Fagade Olufemi Ademola aka Fine Boy, Most Handsome, Sexy Dude, Wowo and Dr. Fix-It fondly called Omo Baba #1 in a BBM Chat Interview with E! 365.

What is comedy like to you?

Comedy is a way life, an expression of God’s giving talent to make the soul and spirit relax in a tensed atmosphere especially a country like Nigeria.

What has your journey to and through the comedy been like?

Preparation is the mother of success. I was prepared, I knew what I wanted and with God on my side I have been able to scale through the difficult times like how to make a name for myself, where to start from, who to meet and how but to cut the long story short, I will say it was a bit cumbersome but thanks to God for seeing me through and making a way where there is none.

Has your journey been what you expected it to be, considering the fact that you’ve been in the game for over a decade?

Yes, it is and that’s why my name is Oluwafemi meaning God loves me or Omo Baba meaning Son of God, and He made me understand that in all things I should give thanks. Comedy industry is the only industry that you can never get old except you pretend you are. So, all these years is just like yesterday to me, I am getting stronger and better everyday.

Tell us how you discovered comedy, how it started and how it has been so far.

Well, I was active in church and school, I was a member of my school’s cultural group, choral group, drama group, school press club, football team and head of brigade band in my secondary school. Immediately after school, I started a band called Riverside Band and all we do is Afro Gospel but it was cumbersome for me to fund as a boy so I delve into comedy but still doing music by the side and thanks to God for His grace.

What was life like before you started doing comedy?

I’m from a family of 7 plus dad and mum and the last born of the family so I enjoyed being pampered by all, I was allowed to do what I want except those things that a good child should not do. My passion for sports is out of this world, I played basketball and football close to the level of being a pro and I don’t drink and smoke as well, I am just that little boy that is happy with myself and love to see people happy.

Nigeria’s comedy doesn’t seem to be too friendly with comedians due to the rate of competition, only a few are making waves. How are you making sure you’re among the top ranked comedians?

Well, that I feel is your own opinion, any comedian that is in a competition in this country is not talented because if you have your style and you are skilled as a professional,I don’t think you need to be in any kind of competition because the sky is big for all to fly. The reason why God placed me there is the fact that am original, that is the only way to stay on top “ask 2face”.

How do you intend to deal with other comedians who may see you as a competitor?

Dealing with or thinking about competitors is like a waste of time to me . There is a proverb that says the water you will drink will not run by you, so paying attention is more like getting distracted when there are so many project to work on.

How does it feel being among the top ranked comedians, does it come with pressure?

Hmmmmm God made it happen so I feel good. Yes for any success story there is pressure but I pick on them one after the other to remain on top.

Are you in a relationship now?

Yes.

Coming this far, you must have observed lots of changes, what is your opinion of Nigerian comedians as it is today?

Yes, I have because comedians are proud of wat they do no compare to those days, it is a serious business but now it is even creating job opportunity for graduates. Comedians in Nigeria are not doing badly but were are not there yet but as far as Africa is concern we are no 1.

When are you likely to host a grand style comedy show?

Omobaba is into so many things, very soon I will have my album listening session with some of my friends and also radio and TV shows coming soon, watch out it will be so big.

Lastly, what is your take on the segregation comedians have had to face in Nigeria and what solutions would you suggest?

Well , I am just hearing that from you. For I as Omo Baba no1, I am free with all and I work freely in every environment I find myself.
