Gossip & Gists: Kenya Tops Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards Nominations

Over 15 Kenyan actors, directors, make-up artistes and cinematographers have been nominated for the second edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards holding next year.

Some of the nominees include Edwin Maina Kariuki, Valerie Kimani, David Mulwa, Ian Mbugua, Elayne Okaya, Alex Gakumo, Elayne Okaya, Alex Gakumo, Catherine Kibugi, Ruth Ndulu Maingi, Mohamed Zain, Barbara Minishi, Christian Almesberger, Edwin Maina Kariuki and Njoki Muhoho.

The nominees were announced on Thursday, December 5 at Landmark village, Victoria Island. The award proper will be presented to deserving individuals in March 2014.

Gossip & Gists: Nominees For Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards 2014 [Full List]

The nominees for the second edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) were announced on Thursday, December 5 at an event held to celebrate Africa Magic’s 10th Anniversary at the Landmark village, Victoria Island in Lagos.

Gossip & Gists: Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele Lose Out At Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, As OC Ukeje Wins Big

The first ever edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards was successfully held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday, March 9, 2013.


The top winners of the night were Nigerian actor O.C Ukeje and Ghana’s Jackie Appiah, who walked away with the ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ award.

The biggest surprises of the night were actresses Genevieve Nnaji and Funke Akindele-Oloyede losing out in their respective categories. Genevieve lost out to Jackie Appiah in the ‘Best Actress’ category and Akindele-Oloyedey lost to Mercy Johnson in the ‘Best Actress – Comedy (Movies/TV)‘ category.

The ‘Best director’ award went to Anita van Hemert and Chantel Carter  for the South African 2011 Drama movie ‘Otelo Burning‘ while veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani walked away with the award ‘Best Local Language Movie’ (Yoruba) for his latest film ‘Maami’
Long time actor Olu Jacobs received an Industry Merit Award for his outstanding achievements in the industry.
